HOLIDAYS ON MAIN: A HOMETOWN CHRSTMAS

Yes, we know it’s early… but some things are worth the extra time to prepare for!

This year’s Holidays on Main will take place in December 13 and our 2025 theme is: “A Hometown Christmas.”

This theme is all about bringing the focus back home and celebrating the people, places, and shared moments that strengthen our community bond. From our charming Main Street to the neighbors who make it shine, A Hometown Christmas invites everyone to gather, connect, and create memories right here in the heart of our town.

By announcing now, we’re giving local businesses, schools, churches, and community groups time to dream up floats, decorations, and performances that reflect the warmth and pride of our hometown.

We’re also seeking partners who can help fill the day with festive fun — whether you vend games, activities, entertainment, food, or event equipment that brings people together, we’d love to hear from you about participating. Let’s make Main Street a place to explore, play, and enjoy from morning till parade time in the evening.

At The Lee Chamber, we believe student athletics play a powerful role in shaping the leaders of tomorrow. The lessons learned through sports - teamwork, discipline, resilience, and leadership - go far beyond the playing field. These strengths prepare young people for the challenges and opportunities they’ll encounter in their careers and in life.

That’s why we created the Athlete of the Week program. It’s our way of encouraging student athletes to keep building on those skills and rewarding them for stepping up as leaders among their peers. By recognizing and uplifting these qualities early, we’re not just celebrating individual achievement - we’re cultivating the kind of talent and character that strengthens our community and helps it thrive.

As we told everyone last week, Duke Energy let us know that they will be doing construction downtown as part of the new lighting project. To keep everyone safe we're shifting the location to hand out treats. All Candy Crawl participants between who registered as handing out treats between Church St. and Cedar Ln will now be set up on the Chamber lawn. ?DELAY: Due to the location change, businesses need time to decide if participation is still feasible based on their operations and ability to move to the new setup area. This adjustment has created a brief delay in finalizing and releasing the participant list. Thanks for helping us keep this a safe and fun event for everyone! ? ‼NOTICE: If you registered to hand out treats at a location between Church and Cedar and have not confirmed that you will move to the Chamber lawn for the event, please do so by calling 803-483-2800 before close of business tomorrow. We cannot include you on the list without confirming you'll participate at the Chamber lawn. We called everyone affected last week but have not gotten confirmation from several.

?Duke Energy and county officials to test sirens around Robinson Nuclear Plant on July 9, 2025 Five- to 30-second quarterly test scheduled between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday, July 9 No public action required HARTSVILLE, S.C. – The 59 outdoor warning sirens around the Robinson Nuclear Plant will be tested for five to 30 seconds between 1 p.m. and 5 p.m. on Wednesday July 9, 2025, as scheduled. To ensure they are functioning properly, it may be necessary to test some sirens more than once. Follow-up testing after siren maintenance may be required. Testing is performed in cooperation with emergency management officials in Chesterfield, Darlington and Lee counties, who are responsible for sounding the sirens. Because this is a test, local broadcasting stations will not interrupt regular programming to broadcast Emergency Alert System (EAS) messages. If there was ever a real emergency at the plant requiring the sirens to be sounded, local radio and television stations would broadcast information and instructions to the public. Not only do they do many impactful things in the community, they also always go out of their way to support other local organizations. And just like that, it’s official! City Mart had their ribbon cutting and grand opening today. There was a great turnout for the event. Owner Mark Morrar who, having been in business here since 2012, shared some words of gratitude and excitement to have his businesses grow within our community. Fletcher Smith of the SC SBSC spoke about the growth he has seen in Bishopville and the bright future for small business here. We are grateful to everyone who came out to support Chamber member City Mart as they hosted a successful event featuring giveaways, a meet & greet and of course, the absolutely delicious chicken!
